I didn't plan to be on psychiatric medications for my adult life. I believed my Obstetrician when he told me I would need anti-depressants for six months at most after my experience with Post-partum Depression. Over the years the original diagnosis has been all but forgotten by everyone but me. Why am I still on them?

I am starting off this conversation because I have lived over half my life on psychiatric medications and have researched them and the industry behind them.

I do not claim that my experience with psychiatric medications is the norm. I tried to get off them many times over the years and each time seemed to be worse than the next. Likely, this did not help my nervous system to recover and then heal. But, I do believe there is an awful lot to learn about psychiatric medications from those that use them, have good or bad experiences, and are willing to share them.

Let our voices be heard!

IF YOU ARE ON MEDICATION PLEASE DON'T EVER STOP YOUR MEDICATION COLD TURKEY. TALK TO YOUR PRESCRIBER ABOUT GETTING OFF THEM USING A SLOW TAPER. I AM NOT A DOCTOR, PSYCHIATRIST, or TRAINED THERAPIST; THESE ARE THE OPINIONS OF A SURVIVOR.

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911 (or your country's local emergency line) or go to an emergency room.

Be Prepared: Explain that it is a psychiatric emergency and ask for someone who is trained to help with one.
